Gorna Breznica village

The road leading to the village of Gorna Breznitsa is remarkable: crowns of centuries-old plane trees – giants overhang their strength over it and form a majestic tunnel of greenery and powerful feathery branches, through which sunbeams penetrate here and there. As you travel, you have the feeling that you are passing into another time. As in a fairy tale, the wide asphalt alley with plane trees winds its way and you expect it to lead you to an ancient aristocratic castle. The magic of the huge ancient trees hovers along the road to Gorna Breznitsa. And when you arrive in the heart of the village, in front of the stone walls and wooden gates of Fendemia, under the tall and slender lindens, you will not be disappointed!

The road to FUNDEMIA, Gorna Breznica

Near the village lies the largest natural plane tree stand in Bulgaria – a true plane tree kingdom of trees over 300 years old!They have intertwined powerful roots into the earth along the streams that gush through the ravines of the Maleshevska Mountain, flow into the river that runs through the village, and then flow into the Struma River. In the clearing by the river, people from the village have always gathered under the shade of the plane tree crowns to celebrate the Ilinden Uprising.

In 1974, the Ministry of Forestry and Nature Conservation declared the Buyna area a protected area. And in 2003 it was categorized as a protected area – “Natural Plane Tree Habitat – Buyna”.
